Bodmin Moor is a place full of folklore and legend. From Tales of King Arthur to Victorian Ghosts and Big Cats stalking the moor, it's captured the imagination for centuries.
The tales keep you on edge when hiking the peaks on a bleak winter's day. After a long trek against the cold wind, we made it to the top of Rough Tor. From previous research, I knew there was a prominent boulder I wanted to capture. The problem was when I photographed the boulder by itself, something was wrong. The composition felt loose and bland. The missing piece of the puzzle was a human subject. The moor has been shaped by a millennium of human activity. It felt wrong not to include a homo sapien in the scene. A stroke of luck occurred when my fellow adventurer Nate climbed onto the boulder. At the same time, my partner Chloé was flying her drone. She flew next to Nate, which gave him quite a fright! I'd lined up the composition seconds before he got startled. Encapsulating the beautiful geology and simulatenous fright Bodmin Moor exuberates. |
