The eye roll can signal a multitude of things. Human facial expressions are complex and rely on context to understand the meaning of the behaviour. An effective artist isolates an expression, a subject or behaviour out of its original context. Turning it into a completely new expression for the viewer to dissect and conclude what it means to them.
Whatever an eye roll means to you. It often signals enough. Whether that's enough of your kid's behaviour, enough of parents words, enough sexual stimulation to cause an orgasm, enough of a substance to cause an OD, or enough of suffering to cause death. It signals, 'I've had enough of this external stimulus.' An eye roll is a chance event. Unless you ask your subject to do one. There's a difference between a natural eye roll and an asked eye roll. You can see the forced nature of an asked eye roll. It's more mechanical, less emotional. The high frame rate on the Canon R6 and Chloé's comfort in front of the lens made this natural frame a reality. Many thanks to my partner in life, Chloé, for her patient cooperation and great skill in front of the camera. She's a brilliant artist in her own right. |
